Frequently Asked Questions

The first 3 bytes (24 bits) of a MAC address form the Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI), assigned by the IEEE to device manufacturers. This prefix identifies the vendor that produced the network interface.
This tool includes an embedded table of the ~50 most common OUI prefixes covering major manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, Intel, Cisco, and more. For less common vendors the result will show 'Unknown vendor'. No API calls are made.
You can enter a MAC address with colons (AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF), dashes (AA-BB-CC-DD-EE-FF), dots (AABB.CCDD.EEFF), or no separator (AABBCCDDEEFF). The tool normalizes and reformats it automatically.
